Quoting Kenya’s founding President Jomo Kenyatta, Prof Verkooijen
reinforced the idea that building bridges between nations, sectors, and
generations is the key to resilience and progress. The Chancellor made
the remarks during the State Banquet in honour of Their Majesties,
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Kingdom of the
Netherlands, held at State House Kenya on March 18, 2025.
He pointed out that the University of Nairobi,
through the Big 5 Agenda and Silicon
Savannah, is at the forefront of digital
transformation, innovation, and job creation.
The Chancellor also announced that the
Global Centre on Adaptation has signed its
hosting agreement with Kenya, marking a
historic moment as the first international
organisation to establish dual headquarters
bridging the Global North and Global South.
This move strengthens Kenya’s position as a
global leader in climate adaptation and
resilience building.
